Balayage · Koreatown, Los Angeles

Color that grows
out gracefully.

Balayage is a hand-painted coloring technique that builds soft, natural dimension instead of uniform stripes. At ONIS, it's built around your base color and the way you actually wear your hair day to day.

Painted, not foiled.

Balayage is applied by hand, freehand, rather than sectioned into foils. That gives the color a softer, more graduated transition from root to end, which reads as sun-lightened rather than obviously highlighted.

Because the lightening is concentrated toward the mid-lengths and ends, regrowth at the root is much less noticeable than with traditional foil highlights, which usually means longer stretches between salon visits.

Built around your base color.

Balayage on dark, previously untouched hair takes a different plan than balayage on already-lightened hair. We start with a consultation to map out placement and tone based on your current color and the level of lift you actually want, then confirm final pricing from there.

What's the difference between balayage and highlights?
Highlights are sectioned and foiled for a more uniform, consistent result. Balayage is hand-painted for a softer, more graduated look with less obvious regrowth lines.
Does balayage work on dark hair?
Yes, though it may take more processing time and multiple sessions to reach a lighter result safely. We'll walk through a realistic timeline at consultation.
How often do I need a touch-up?
Most clients come back every 3 to 4 months, longer than traditional highlights, since the grow-out is designed to look soft rather than sharp.
