Keratin treatments work by coating and smoothing the hair shaft with a protein-based formula, sealed in with heat. It doesn't chemically straighten hair the way a perm does. Instead, it reduces frizz and puffiness, making natural texture easier to manage and cutting down blow-dry time significantly.

It gradually fades out over a few months as hair grows and is washed, rather than growing out at the root the way color does.
